Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start planning a vacation with you?

Getting started is easy! Complete my vacation inquiry form or book a complimentary Vacation Planning Call.

I'll learn about your travel style, priorities, and budget, then narrow down the options to the resorts I genuinely believe are the best fit for you.

What are your office hours?

My regular office hours are:

Monday to Thursday: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Friday: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Saturday and evenings: By appointment
Sundays and holidays: Closed

Do you charge fees for your services?

In most cases, my vacation planning services are complimentary when you book your vacation through me because I'm compensated by the travel supplier.

There are some exceptions, including certain group and destination wedding bookings, bookings using points, independent vacation planning consultations, and some client-requested changes or cancellations after booking.

I'll always let you know about any applicable fees before we move forward.

Can I use points to book my vacation?

Sometimes. How it works depends on the type of points you're using.

If you're using WestJet points, I can apply eligible points directly to your vacation booking. Because I don't receive commission on the portion paid with points, a 10% service fee applies to the value redeemed with points.

If you're using credit card points or another rewards program that requires you to make the booking yourself, I can still help through my Vacation Planning Consultation for $300. I'll provide personalized resort recommendations, room category advice, excursion suggestions and destination information, and you'll make the final reservation yourself.

You can find more details about this service on my Travel Planning page.

Is it more expensive to book with a travel advisor?

In most cases, no. Vacation package pricing is generally the same as booking directly with the supplier.

The difference is that you also get personalized recommendations, destination and resort expertise, help preparing for your trip, and someone in your corner if something goes sideways.

When should I book my vacation?

Generally, the earlier the better, especially if you're travelling during peak travel periods such as Christmas, spring break or Easter, travelling with a larger group, or looking for a specific resort or room category.

Last-minute deals aren't as common as they once were, and waiting can often mean fewer choices and higher prices.

Do you only book Mexico and the Caribbean?

Yes, Mexico and the Caribbean are my specialties. I focus on these destinations so I can give you genuine advice and personalized recommendations, not simply what looks good online.

If you're looking for something outside my area of expertise, I may be able to connect you with another trusted travel advisor who specializes in that destination or type of travel.

Can you help with group travel?

Absolutely! I love helping families, friends, and other groups travel together.

Group bookings work differently from regular vacation bookings, so I'll help determine whether a traditional group booking or individual reservations make the most sense for your group.

Do you plan destination weddings?

Absolutely! I'll help you find the right destination and resort, navigate the group booking process, coordinate your guests' travel, and guide you through the process from the initial planning stages through travel.

What happens after I book with you?

My job doesn't end once your vacation is booked! You'll receive helpful information and resources throughout the time leading up to your trip, including destination information, excursion recommendations, travel reminders, travel documents, and everything you'll need to prepare for departure.

Before you travel, you'll also receive my Travel Support Guide, which explains what to do if something unexpected happens while you're away. And, of course, I'm still here to answer questions before and during your trip.

What if something goes wrong while I'm travelling?

You're not on your own once you leave home. Depending on the situation, your first point of contact may be the airline, resort, tour operator or transfer company because they're often in the best position to resolve the issue immediately.

Do I really need travel insurance?

I highly recommend it. Travel insurance can help protect you and the money you've invested in your vacation when unexpected situations arise before or during your trip.

I'll discuss your insurance options with you so you can make an informed decision.

Do you book flights only?

No. I specialize in complete vacation planning rather than flight-only bookings.

Still have a question?

I promise I’ve probably been asked all of these before, and if you don’t see your question here, just ask!
