I Don’t Sell the Whole World (and That’s a Good Thing)

Why You Should Book with a Mexico & Caribbean Travel Specialist

Not all travel advisors are created equal.

The difference between a good trip and a great one often comes down to who’s planning it, especially when that person truly knows your destination.

Why It Matters to Book with a Travel Advisor Who Specializes in Your Destination

Here’s a somewhat unpopular opinion in the travel world: I don’t believe one travel advisor can sell the whole world really well.

Sure, we can technically book anywhere, but that doesn’t mean we should. When you know a destination inside and out, you give your clients so much more: insider knowledge, honest guidance, and the kind of small-but-important details that make the difference between a good trip and an unforgettable one.

When you don’t know a destination deeply, you’re doing your clients an injustice. Their vacation is an investment, of time, money, and excitement, and that deserves more than just matching a budget to a resort name on a list.

Let me give you an example.

Last month, I was in Cancun and the Riviera Maya visiting three adults-only resorts. On paper, they all sound similar. But in reality? They couldn’t be more different.

Sandos Cancun

This one’s a smaller, budget-friendly resort with an edgy, city vibe. It’s tower-style, close to the airport, and has that high-energy atmosphere, think pool parties with pole dancers and lively entertainment. It’s fun, but not for everyone. Rooms are dated and basic, and some don’t even have balconies, which might sound small, but for some clients, that’s a dealbreaker. And if an advisor doesn’t know that? Their client could arrive to a room that instantly disappoints.

Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya

Also a smaller resort, but a completely different feel, laid back, relaxed, and social without being loud. It’s perfect for people who just want to chill with a margarita and great music. But here’s the kicker: there’s no beach. If your dream vacation includes toes in the sand and ocean swims, this wouldn’t be the right fit. A specialist knows that before recommending it.

Impression Moxché by Secrets

Now we’re talking luxury, quiet, elegant, and upscale. The vibe is more “saxophone by the pool” than “party DJ.” It’s stunning, but if you crave a livelier scene, you’ll find yourself next door at Secrets Moxché most of the time, and wondering why you paid the higher price tag for a resort you’re barely using.

Why This Matters

When an advisor books a client into a resort that doesn’t match their personality, it’s not just a mismatch, it’s a disappointment. That’s when people say, “Why would I book with a travel advisor? I could’ve done this myself.”

And honestly? They’re not wrong to feel that way. That’s why I’m such a firm believer that you should book with a travel advisor who specializes in the destination you’re heading to.

Because when your advisor truly knows the region, the resorts, the beaches, the vibe, they’re not just selling you a trip. They’re curating an experience that actually fits you.

And yes, I do sometimes help my clients plan trips outside of Mexico and the Caribbean. But only when I have the time to do the research it deserves, and when I already know which trusted supplier partners can help make it a trip of a lifetime. If I don’t, I’ll happily refer you to another advisor who specializes there. It’s not about losing a booking, it’s about making sure you get the value and expertise your vacation deserves.

My Final Thought

Anyone can book a vacation. A destination specialist helps you plan the right one.

Mexico and the Caribbean are where I’ve spent years exploring, researching, and connecting with the best resort partners. If that’s where your next getaway takes you, I’d love to help you make it unforgettable.

Let’s chat about which resort suits your travel style and get you floating in paradise in no time.
